Geography and Climate

Winter Season

May–October: cooler and drier, with temperatures from 15 to 25°C.

November–April: warm and humid, with temperatures from 25 to 35°C.

The best time to visit is from May to December, when the weather is most comfortable and there is less rain.

The climate is tropical, with two main seasons:

Entry Requirements

The following documents are required for entry:
– A passport valid for the entire duration of your stay.
– A return or onward ticket.
– Proof of accommodation.
– Proof of sufficient funds.
– A completed online travel form.

No specific mandatory vaccinations are generally required for direct entry into Mauritius. Yellow Fever vaccination is not recommended for travel to the island.

Travelers are advised to ensure that their routine vaccinations are up to date. Vaccinations against Hepatitis A and B may also be recommended.

Russian citizens do not require a visa for tourist travel to Mauritius. The permitted length of stay is determined by immigration authorities upon entry.
Before traveling, it is recommended to complete the Mauritius All-in-One Travel Form.

Food

Local cuisine is diverse and combines Indian, Chinese, and African influences. It is recommended to try curries, seafood, and tropical fruits.

Transport

Taxis and buses are available on the island. For convenience, you can rent a car or motorcycle, but bear in mind that traffic drives on the left.

Money

The official currency is the Mauritian rupee (MUR). ATMs are available in major towns, but it is better to carry cash for small purchases at markets or local shops.

Safety

Mauritius is considered one of the safest countries for tourists. Nevertheless, follow standard precautions.

The official language is English, but French and Creole are also widely used.

Tipping is not mandatory, but it is customary to leave small amounts (10% of the bill) in restaurants and taxis.

For citizens of other countries
Citizens of countries that require a prior visa must contact the embassy, consulate or authorized representative office of Mauritius before departure.

Tourist status in general may be granted for a period of up to six months in a calendar year, however, this does not mean automatic permission for six months for every visitor. The decision is made individually.
For citizens of Russia
Citizens of Russia usually do not require a visa for a short-term tourist trip. A permit to stay is stamped at the border. The final period is determined by the immigration officer.

For a tourist website, it is safe to indicate a recommended trip duration of up to 60 days, while warning that the permitted period is recorded by the stamp upon entry.

  • confirmed accommodation booking;
  • sufficient financial means;
  • right to enter the next country on the itinerary;
  • completed electronic form;
  • medical insurance.
Before the trip, it is recommended to complete the Mauritius All-in-One Travel Form and save the generated QR code. In the absence of the form, the passenger may be asked to complete immigration documents upon arrival.
The visa regime depends on citizenship. For a large number of countries, visa-free entry or a free visa/permit upon arrival is provided.

Mandatory vaccination for entry
There is usually no special mandatory vaccination for direct tourist entry. The child should be vaccinated according to age, especially against measles.
For tourists, the following may be relevant:
  • routine vaccinations;
  • hepatitis A;
  • hepatitis B;
  • typhoid – for non-standard travel, staying outside resorts or prolonged stays.
The vaccine is not recommended for a trip to Mauritius, as there is no usual risk of disease transmission on the island.
According to the CDC, a yellow fever certificate is usually not required for entry into Mauritius.

Nevertheless, when traveling through several African countries on a complex itinerary, it is recommended to separately check the requirements of the airline and health authorities before departure.
